What is a Food Cooperative?

Co-ops are rooted in the local communities they serve. Compared to traditional supermarkets, food co-ops give more money back to the local economy. Grocery cooperatives do business with farmers in the area, stocking up on fresh produce and specialty items you can't find at a conventional store.

What are the benefits of food cooperatives?

Increases supply of local and organic produce. Easier for people to shop by foot or by bike by providing outlets in residential areas. Provides food that often has less packaging, and generates less waste.

An experienced supermarket operator is proposing a full-service supermarket on the Arrowhead block to serve Hartford's north end residents, consistent with the community-driven Arrowhead Master Plan. Come to a public meeting at 6PM on Mon, 9/29 @ Dunkin Stadium to learn more about how the City & developers are implementing the community's vision for the Arrowhead area, which also includes affordable retail space for black/brown-owned small businesses, improvements to the Main/Albany intersection, & a Puerto Rican Cultural Center in the Sacred Heart church.
